Join Peter and CJ on their first shoot together, where Peter attempts to recreate the lighting from this beautiful shot. The original image was taken in 2015, so he didn’t remember exactly what he did and as the models have very different faces there had to be some variation on the lighting to suit. We hope you enjoy it!

Peter’s best advice for learning lighting is to find an image and copy their lighting as best you can, having a play with different techniques to achieve certain styles when creating your own work. This is something he still does, even though he has been doing this for a while now! In this tutorial, you will see his thought process to recreate the lighting from an image Ana picked out, and then how he tweaks it to make it his own.
In these start to finish tutorials with Peter’s muse Natascha, Peter builds lighting from a mixture of different photos, both his own and other inspiration photos he has found on the internet. As it is a mixture of different photos, you will get to see Peter’s complete thought process to get the exact look he is after.
Bec recently got back from a festival (or ‘doof’ as we say here in Australia) and gave Peter the challenge of recreating one of the photos taken at the festival. The inspiration photo was shot with natural midday sunlight, which was quite a challenge for Peter to recreate in the studio on an overcast day.
