In these tutorials, Peter puts his own spin on an inspiration photo using a mixture of 3 different lights – natural, flash and constant! You will see him working start to finish, from building the background to the slight adjustments with the constant light at the end.

In this tutorial with model CJ, Peter attempts to recreate the lighting from this photo he took. His image was taken years ago so he doesn’t exactly remember how he lit it, so you will get to see Peter’s complete thought process. We hope you enjoy it!

Peter’s best advice for learning lighting is to find an image and copy their lighting as best you can, having a play with different techniques to achieve certain styles when creating your own work. This is something he still does, even though he has been doing this for a while now! In this tutorial, you will see his thought process to recreate the lighting from an image Ana picked out, and then how he tweaks it to make it his own.

Bec recently got back from a festival (or ‘doof’ as we say here in Australia) and gave Peter the challenge of recreating one of the photos taken at the festival. The inspiration photo was shot with natural midday sunlight, which was quite a challenge for Peter to recreate in the studio on an overcast day.
